General and Orthopedic Pet Surgery Services

Your pet deserves to have access to surgical services that can best meet their needs. At Animal Care Center of Downers Grove, our doctors are skilled in performing many different surgeries, from more general procedures to orthopedics. Additionally, our hospital can provide these services for dogs, cats, and many exotic species.

As with human surgery, pet surgery has its risks, but we go to great lengths to minimize those risks. If you have concerns about your pet's health and whether surgery is the best option, please consult with one of our veterinarians. Our hospital uses a dedicated surgical suite with the most up-to-date equipment to ensure maximum comfort and safety for every patient.

Preparation and Safety

We carefully follow strict safety protocols to keep pets as healthy and pain-free as possible before, during and after their procedure. This includes:

  • Conducting a preanesthetic exam and possible blood testing to assess your pet's current condition and screen for medical problems
  • Applying the proper level of anesthesia to keep your pet comfortably sedated throughout their surgery
  • Pre-medicating with pain control and placing an IV catheter for fluids and additional medication as needed
  • Using the safest and most effective isoflurane gas for anesthesia
  • Having an experienced veterinary technician standing by to monitor your pet's heart rate, blood pressure, pulse oximetry and other vitals during their surgery
  • Monitoring your pet until they safely awaken from surgery
  • Performing a post-surgery exam to make sure your pet is healthy and ready to be discharged
