Treating and Healing with Pet Laser Therapy
At Animal Care Center of Downers Grove, we work to provide the safest and most effective pain control options to help our patients regain their comfort and zest for life. That's why we've equipped our facility with a state-of-the-art therapeutic laser therapy to treat pets at any age, size and breed for painful, life-limiting conditions.
Every pet deserves to live a pain-free life, but knowing when they're experiencing pain can be a challenge. Our pets will often hide their pain instinctively, and their condition can quickly deteriorate if left untreated. One of our skilled veterinarians will work with you to identify the source of your pet's pain and decide whether laser therapy is compatible with their needs.
How Laser Therapy Works
Laser therapy is drug-free, non-invasive and completely painless. When in use, the laser emits light beams at specific frequencies, which safely penetrate the outer tissues and muscle. The light particles increase cell production and aid in cell repair, resulting in less pain and inflammation, improved blood circulation, and faster healing. The light beams are emitted through a handheld device, which is gently massaged over the area needing treatment. Your pet will feel a soothing warmth during the procedure, which they should find relaxing.
While we cannot recommend pet laser therapy for patients with cancer, we can offer it to treat many other conditions, including:
- Degenerative disc/joint disease
- Lick granulomas
- Chronic ear infections
- Surgical incision sites (post-op)
- Pain caused by hip/elbow dysplasia
